Author. He was a nineteenth century French author. He was born to a poor family, leaving school at 13. His experiences as a would-be poet in Paris led to his 1851 novel "Scenes de la vie de Boheme," in which he portrayed himself in the character of a poet "Rodolphe." The success of these sketches led to fame and reasonable fortune, as they were the basis for Giacomo Puccini's well-recognized 1896 opera "La Boheme." In the end, the French government paid for his funeral and the community funded his bust, which was placed in the gardens at Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris.
