Charles' parents were Carl Gottfried and Mariana Fransiska Klapper. Charles emigrated from Prussia through Holland to England. In 1866 he married Elizabeth Moffatt. They lived at 2 Anns Place in Whitechapel. They had 6 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. His wife Elizabeth, son, Charles James, and daughter-in-law, Edith Isabel, are also buried in this same grave.
