Artist. He and his wife Frances Strain were both students of the School of the Chicago Art Institute and were among the earliest of the painters who had settled in the Indiana Dunes. They were both members of a group of radical artists of their time known as "The Ten" or "Ten Artists" and mostly exhibited their work at Marshall Field's flagship store in Chicago's Loop from 1920 to the early 1940s. His papers are among the collections of the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
