James Yancy Callahan
Birth: Dec. 19, 1852
Death: May 3, 1935

US Congressman. Born on a farm near Salem, Missouri, he entered the ministry in 1880, plus engaged in agricultural pursuits, saw-milling and mining. He moved to Stanton County, Kansas, in 1885, served on the county register of deeds, (1886-89), then moved to Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1892 and engaged in agricultural pursuits. In 1897, he was elected on the Free Silver ticket to the Fifty-fifth Congress, serving until 1899. Not a candidate for renomination, he settled in Enid, Oklahoma and was the publisher of the Jacksonian newspaper until he retired in 1913. He died at age 82 in Enid, Oklahoma. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
