U.S. Congressman. Born in Sharon Township, Ohio, he moved to Cleveland, with his parents in 1857, graduated from Western Reserve College, 1871, was admitted to bar and proceeded to practice law in Cleveland. He served as deputy collector of customs at Cleveland, retired from the practice of law in 1884 and engaged in the manufacture of wire nails, staples and rods. In 1895, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth and Fifty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1899. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former manufacturing interests until his death at 57 in Rocky River, Ohio.
