U.S. Congressman. Born in Cashtown, Pennsylvania, he graduated from Franklin and Marshall College, in 1857, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1859 and commenced to practice law in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was District Attorney of Adams County, (1862-68). In 1883, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth Congress, serving until his death at age 48 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
