U.S. Congressman. Born in Newtown, Pennsylvania, he attended Doylestown Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1825 and commenced to practice law in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate in 1843 and judge of the fifteenth judicial district, (1845-49). In 1857, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he was judge of the Bucks County Court, (1861-71). He died at age 87 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
