She was born on December 1, 1912 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of the late James M. and Mabel (Rodgers) Copeland. She married Martin Buker on August 12, 1941 and he preceded her in death on February 20, 2011 after sixty-nine years of marriage.
Virginia was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She always loved being around youngsters, especially her children, grand children and great-grand children. She especially enjoyed helping them with school projects. She loved her flowers. Virginia also loved sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan as well as an Illini Basketball fan and always had a game on the television.
She is survived by her sister Pat (husband Jim) Ethridge of Joliet, son Martin Jerry (wife Marie) Buker of Baltimore, MD, 2 daughters, Cindy (husband Alan) Kremitzki of Springfield, and Linda (husband Mike) Schober of Glenarm, IL, 8 grandchildren, Kevin (wife Rebecca) Buker, Brian Buker, Derek (wife Kristianne) Buker, Carly Buker, Matthew (wife Nicole) Thomas, Kyle (wife Tiffany) Thomas, Amy (husband David) Wiley, and Nate Schober, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband two brothers and one sister.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 10:30 am with Reverend Charlie Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
Memorials may be made to a Children's Charity of the donor's choice.
