U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Dartmouth College New Hampshire, moved to Pennsylvania, in 1812 and taught school. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1815 and commenced to practice law in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. In 1845, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Congresses, serving until 1849. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he died at age 61 while en route back home from Washington, D.C.
