US Congressman. A native of Potters Mills, Pennsylvania, he attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, was admitted to the bar in 1814 and practiced in Centre County. Potter held no public office before being elected as a Democrat to represent Pennsylvania's 14th Congressional District in the Twenty-Fifth and Twenty-Sixth Congresses. He died suddenly at 46, before the latter was assembled. There is a cenotaph for him at Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC.
