Obituary: "Samuel McGinnis was born in Chester county, Pa., August 25, 1821, and died March 21, 1911, therefore being 90 years of age at the time of his death. At the age of seven years [ca 1828] his father removed to Muskingum county. When he came of age he purchased his father's farm, remaining a farmer until infirmities compelled him to give up work. He was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Morris, Oct. 16, 1848, who died August 18, 1902. Seven children were born to their union. Charles J., deceased, Mary E. Dozer of Fostoria, O.; Mrs. Lizzie Taylor of this city; William K., Wichita, Kansas; Louis H., Alfred S., and Edwin G., all of this city. He also leaves seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was converted more than 50 years ago and joined the Fairview M. E. church, but later brought his membership card to the Trinity M. E. church, this city, and had been a faithful member for 20 years. Mr. McGinnis devoted more that 50 years to the cause of temperance, having been the leader of the Loyal Temperance Legion and a prominent member of the Prohibition party."
