US Congressman. He was born one of eight children (he also had six brothers and three sisters) to John Young and Elizabeth Singleton Young near Bardstown, Nelson County, Kentucky, and he studied medicine with a Dr. Bemiss, of Bloomfield, Kentucky. He then graduated from the prestigious University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, and commenced his practice of law in Bloomfield, Kentucky. In 1810 he married Anna Marie January and the couple had three sons together (Ephraim January Young was born in 1817, Andrew Muldrow Young was born in 1821, and Haydon Rector Young was born in 1824). He relocated to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, in 1814 and while there continued his practice of law. He then decided to run for a seat in the United States Congress and was elected. A Democrat, he then served Kentucky's 11th District in the United States House of Representatives from 1825 to 1827. He continued in office until his death on September 20, 1827, at the age of 37, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, before the assembling of the Twentieth Congress. After a special election was held he was succeeded in office by United States Representative John Calhoon on November 5, 1827, but he only served until November 7, 1827, when he resigned in order to avoid a contest. Unfortunately, Calhoon lost the next election to his opponent United States Representative Thomas Chilton. Young, was buried in the Elizabethtown Cemetery in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. His brother was United States Representative Bryan Rust Young (1800-1882), and his nephew was United States Representative and Governor of Kentucky John Young Brown (1835-1904).
