8/10/2001 - Margaret Merz Richardson, 96, of 5214 Thumb Road, died at 6 p.m. Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) in the Waters of Westfield in Westfield. She was born Aug. 15, 1904, in Jamestown, the daughter of Frank and Lena Crissey Merz. She was educated in Jamestown Public School and graduated from Julliard School of Music in New York City, where she studied violin. She attended George Washington University and the American University in Washington. She taught at the Industrial Home School for Girls in Washington and was a violinist in the Amity String Quartet. She was a member of the K.E. Sorority, the Mozart Club, the Junior Society of W.C.A. Hospital, and the Chautauqua County Historical Society, all of Jamestown. She was member of the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church in Dewittville. She was a member of St. Columbas Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and was co-founder and director of Sargent House for senior citizens, the Friday Morning Music Club, the Community Film Council and the Chapter F of the P.E.O Sorority, all of Washington. She was also a member of the Women's Guild of the Episcopal Church Home, Georgetown, D.C. Her parents, Frank and Lena Crissey Merzk, gave land to the Boy Scouts, which was named Camp Merz in Mayville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dee Richardson Sr., whom she married Aug. 15, 1924, and who died Sept 22, 1958; and three sisters: Frances Rose, Lucy Merz and Elizabeth Butterfield. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church, Dewittville. The Rev. Les Drayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington. No visitation will be observed. Memorials may be made to Camp Merz Boy Scout Camp, West Lake Road, Mayville, N.Y., 14757, or a charity of choice. Arrangements are by the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville.
