"FATHER AND SON DEAD
AN IMPRESSICE SCENE PRESENTED AT A PRIVATE FUNERAL
Musicians John P. Rowbotham, and George C. Rowbotham, Who Died Within Twenty-four Hours of Each Other
Father and son side by side in death lying in handsome caskets was the strangely impressive sight presented to the friends and relatives at the private funeral of Musicians John P. Rowbotham and George C. Rowbotham yesterday. The services at the house of son-in-law, Abraham H. Smith, 1817 North Twenty-second street, were conducted by Rev. Dr. Savidge, of the Church of the Beloved Disciple, of which the deceased were members.
The pastor spoke most touchingly of the double bereavement that had fallen upon the family and friends, but all his eloquent and patriotic words were unequal to the wonderful impressiveness of the two calm faces of the dead, both remarkably handsome and lifelike.
BEAUTIFUL FLORAL OFFERINGS
The floral offering from the family was in three bars of music with a b c, representing the periods of childhood, youth and old age and also three score years, followed by a quarter rest and two half rests and the one whole rest. A vacant chair came from St. Paul's Guild of the church, a horseshoe from the son's nurse, two palms from a nephew and a crescent and other offerings from various friends.
Besides the relatives and friends of the family, only a lodge of Odd Fellows, of which the deceased were members, followed the remains to the cemetery. The father died of heart failure, and the son of consumption, one in Philadelphia, and the other in New York, within twenty-four hours of each other. The father served as musical instructor in the Mexican Ward.
