US Congressman. He graduated from Union College New York, in 1862, moved to Kansas, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1864 and commenced to practice law in Emporia, Kansas. There he was the judge of the ninth judicial district of Kansas, (1867-77). In 1875, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fourth Congress, serving until 1877. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law in Hutchinson, Kansas and was the register of the United States land office in Larned, Kansas, (1883-85). He moved to moved to El Reno, Oklahoma, in 1892 and was probate judge of Canadian County, (1894-98). After he retired from the bench, he relocated to Missouri, where lived until his death at age 76.
