Mary Etta Rose was born on 25 Mar 1836 in the Catskill Mountains of Ulster Co, NY, the sixth of fourteen children born to the marriage of Samuel Rose and Anna Kent.

She married Mr George Henry Gardner on 22 Dec 1854 in Tunkhannock, Wyoming Co, PA.

George and Mary Etta had one daughter Anna E. Gardner, born on 28 Mar 1856. Anna was later known as Mary Etta Gardner, after the death of her mother and she was being raised by her maternal grandparents.

Mary Etta died on 07 May 1856 in Deposit, Delaware Co, NY, aged 20 Years 1 Months 13 Days.

After her death, her younger sister, Eliza Louisa Rose, came to live with George and little Anna.

Gravesite Details

This memorial is a "Cenotaph"; the exact final resting place of Mary Etta Rose Gardner is not known. A marker is being made to be placed in Laurel Hill Cemetery in the Gardner family plot to her memory.
