Abraham Andrews Barker

U.S. Congressman. He was engaged in agricultural pursuits in the 1850s, also the mercantile business in 1858, later in the lumber business and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1860. During the Civil War, he served as a Private in Company E, Fourth Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Troops, Union Army. After the war, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth Congress, serving (1865-67). An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his previous business interest and retired from active pursuits in 1880. He died at age 81 while going through medical treatment. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
