U.S. Congressman. Born in Center, Shelby County, Texas, he graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers’ College in 1912, was admitted to the bar in 1918 and commenced practice in Kountze, Texas. He served as Judge of Hardin County, (1919-20), district judge of the seventy-fifth district )1923-25) and associate justice of the ninth court of civil appeals, (1933-43(. He was also a member and president of the board of trustees of South Park Schools, (1926-1940) and president of the board of trustees of Lamar College, (1940-44). In 1945, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth Congress and to next the three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1953. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he retired from pulic service and died at age 64 in Beaumont, Texas.
