US Congressman. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he moved to Georgia and was a member of the Georgia State Senate, (1831-34). In 1835, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William Schley, reelected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. After his term, he engaged in the mercantile business and served as a director of the Bank of South Carolina, until his death at age 36 in Charleston, South Carolina.

At an early age he removed to the State of Georgia where his engaging & conciliatory manners & upright gentlemanly deportment soon won for him the esteem and confidence of his fellow ? who successively honored him with seats in the Senate of the State and in Congress. He voluntarily quitted the public service and removed to Charleston where he died a resident merchant.
