Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served in the Civil War first as Colonel and commander of the 22nd Kentucky (Union) Volunteer Infantry, then as Colonel and commander of the 7th Kentucky (Union) Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services during the war". He served as Kentucky's State Quartermaster from 1866 to 1868.
