Dewey Ray Massey, born September 13, 1922, passed away on April 29, 2011, in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born in Manning, Texas to Allie Estelle (Alexander) and Jessie Quency Massey. He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Sadie Arnold, Ruth Lakwyk, Fay Dixon, and his son Douglas Ray Massey.

He is survived by his wife Paula (Franke) Massey, two children by his first marriage, Sharon McDaniel (and husband Doug), Joan Mauldin (and husband David) all of Friendswood, Texas; grandchildren Julie (and Everett) Dallison, Angie (and Darrell) Campbell, Ross McDaniel, all of League City, Texas, and Jana Mauldin of Dallas, Texas, and Jamie Mauldin of San Francisco, California. He is survived by 6 great grandchildren: Morgan, Rylee, Lexie, Trace, Carson, and Ian.

Also, surviving is his sister Patsy Massey (and husband Anthony) Spedale.

He is also survived by his stepchildren Dana (and wife Annie) Hardy, Debra (and husband Bill) Talley, and Scott (and wife Leslie Pintchik) Hardy. He has two step-grandchildren Jenna (and husband Craig) Stephens and Jack Hardy. He has one step-great-grandchild Wren Stephens.

Ray also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Ray proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy during WW II, mostly aboard the AKA #9 Alhena. After leaving the service, he began his career in construction and served over fifty years as a construction superintendent for firms that erected buildings in Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. During his career he worked for Farnsworth and Chambers, Spaw-Glass, Massey-Judge, Robert H. Smith, and Sam Walton Corporation, for which he built 14 stores. His last job was supervising the construction of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Stafford, Texas.

Ray was a long-time and active member of the Arabia Shrine Center in the Legion of Honor.

Known by relatives as "Brother," "Uncle Bubby," and "Dad," and "Papaw" he will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home and Cemetery. The service will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the same location.
