My beautiful mom. In 1978, she was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) after having symptoms for many years. Not much was known about MS at that time.
In March 1992, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Three months later - the worst day of our lives - she passed away from complications of chemotherapy due to her body being weakened by MS. In the early morning hours of June 14, 1992, we received a call from the hospital. We rushed to be with her, and within 5 minutes after our dad arrived, she drew her last breath. I know she waited until June 14th, because June 13th is my dad's birthday. She wouldn't want him to remember her death on his birthday every year. My dad and 3 of us kids were by her side as she went home to our Heavenly Father. It was so hard to accept that she was gone.
She had turned 57 three weeks prior to her death. Too young to die. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her and miss her.
Missing her still is our dad (Lyle), 4 kids (Rick, Cindy, Jani & Steve) and 6 grandchildren (Megan, Michael, Melissa, Ericka, Tyler & Olivia). Her brother Marvin Haussler preceded her in death in 1957 at age 19. She was 8 months pregnant with Rick at the time. He was given the middle name of Marvin in memory.
She had a soft spot in her heart for her dachsunds and cats. Many a stray cat adopted her over her lifetime. She enjoyed sewing, reading, camping, yard sales and trips to the Oregon coast. Most of all, she loved her family.
What I wouldn't give for just one more day with her.

Now, 30 years later, her grandchildren are grown and raising children of their own. We share stories of our mom with the great grandchildren, so they can know what a special great grandma they have. She would be so proud of all of them.
