U.S. Congressman. Moving to Minnesota, in 1872, he engaged in agricultural pursuits and in the lumber business. He was a justice of the peace in 1873, a member of the Minnesota State House of Representatives, (1881-83) and served in the Minnesota State Senate, (1887-91, 99-1903). In 1903, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1907. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was a Deputy United States Marshal, (1912-17) and resumed his lumber business until his death at age 65.
