US Congressman. Born on a farm near Oakland, Illinois, he moved to Andover Township, Minnesota, in 1904 and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was active in the Farm Bureau and Farmers' Union organization, plus held numerous township and local school district office positions. He also served as a member of the Minnesota State Senate, (1915-19, 1923-27, 1931-33). In 1935, he was elected on the Farmer-Labor ticket to the Seventy-fourth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1943. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his agricultural pursuits until his death at age 84 in Crookston, Minnesota.
