Born in Nelson Co. Ky. Emigrated to Daliton Co. Ill in 1814 from thence to Wisc. in 1828. From thence to Dubuque, Iowa, April 1833 removed to Pin Oak, Dubuque Co., his permanent home in Sept 1836. Was engaged as an assistant in the Army under Gov. Shelby in its march from Ky to Lake Erie in 1812 to join the army under Gen. Harrison and assisted in escorting the British officers from Lake Erie to Chilacothy Ohio after Perry's victory Sept 10, 1813.

We talked with Don Schmitt who now lives in the building that used to be the Pin Oak Tavern/Post Office/Western Hotel. He showed us a way to the Floyd family plot.

There are several fieldstone markers in this area as well. Mr. Schmitt has marked all the fieldstone markers with flags. The Floyd family stones sit on a raised plot.

In the Western Hotel, Mrs. Schmitt showed us some articles about John H. Floyd. They were as follows:
