U.S. Congressman. After graduating from Wabash College, Indiana, in 1909, he graduated Harvard Law School, in 1912, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Duluth, Minnesota. Entering politics, he was a member of the Minnesota State House of Representatives, (1917 to 1920). In 1929, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-first and Seventy-second Congresses, serving until 1933. He was again elected to the Seventy-sixth Congress and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving (1939 to 1947). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
