First Israeli ambassador to the United Nations and the United States. One of the major figures in the founding of Israel. Eban published many books about Israel and its history throughout the years, including "Promised Land," "My Country: The Story of Modern Israel," "The Tide of Nationalism," and, in 1998, "Diplomacy for the Next Century." His name at birth was Aubrey Solomon Meir.
