Actress, Singer. A longtime star of the Hungarian stage and screen she earned particular notice in operetta. Born Hajnalka Hugel she originally trained as a ballerina before gradually assuming lead roles at her city's principal venues. Hanna, whose stage name was made-up by her husband, was seen at the Comedy Theatre of Budapest, the Joseph Katona Theatre, the Budapest Operetta Theatre, and elswhere, her repertoire of including Franz Schubert's "Three of the Girls", Franz Lehar's "Friedericke" and "The Count of Luxembourg", Imre Kalman's "The Csardas Princess", Eugene Huszka's "Lieutenant Mary", and Jacques Offenbach's "The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein". Though primarily known for her stage work Hanna was seen on the silver screen a few times over the years begining with 1931's "Budapesti hangos filmkbare" and later made some television appearances. She contiued her stage appearances well into her years; a number of her performances are preserved on DVD.
