U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Princeton College in 1835, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1839 and commenced to practice law in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He was collector for the Port of Bridgeton, (1841-44), elected as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Congresses, serving (1845-49). After leaving Congress, he was solicitor of the board of chosen freeholders of Cumberland County, in 1852 and resumed the practice of law until his death at age 47.
