US Congressman. He was associated with his father in the shoe manufacturing business until 1903 and then engaged in the banking business. He was vice chairman of the New York Public Schools Athletic League, honorary deputy chief of the New York Fire Department, a member of the New York Stock Exchange and director of the New York Cotton Exchange. In 1927, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventieth Congress, serving until 1929. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 66.
