On August 26, 1888, in Callaway, Custer County, Nebraska, Eli married Emma Jane WHIPPLE. His and Emma Jane's son, George, was born in November 1890. Emma Jane died in June 1892. Eli and Emma Jane's son was adopted by Emma Jane's sister Elizabeth and her husband, Eber BARBER. On June 6, 1903, in Champaign County, Illinois, Eli married again. His second wife was Mary Ellen BURNS, widow of Jasper UNDERWOOD.
