Continental Congressman. He was born one of six children (he had three brothers and two sisters) to Colonel Nathan Miller and Patience Turner Miller in Warren, Rhode Island, he attended private school, and made his money as a merchant and shipbuilder. On January 8, 1764, he married Rebekah Barton in Warren, Rhode Island, and they had four children (Patience was born in 1765, Nathan was born in 1765, Abigail was born in 1766, and Ruth was born in 1767). He entered public service and served as a Deputy to the Rhode Island General Assembly from 1772 to 1774, 1780, 1782, 1783, and again in 1790. He later served in the military and advanced thorough various grades, including Colonel before he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General of the Rhode Island Militia for Newport County, Rhode Island, and Bristol County, Rhode Island, and served in that position from 1772 to 1778. He then returned to public service and served as a Deputy in the Rhode Island State Assembly for six years. He then served as a Delegate to the Continental Congress from July 14, 1786, to November 3, 1786, but never held a seat. He lastly served as a Member of the Rhode Island State Constitutional Convention in 1790. He passed away in Warren, Rhode Island, at the age of 46.
