Kentucky Historian and Geologist, and author of numerous works in both fields. During the 1920s he served in state government as Deputy Commissioner of Geology, Kentucky State Geologist, Director of the Sixth Kentucky Geological Survey, Curator of the State Museum, and Chairman of the first Kentucky State Park Commission. He also taught geology at the University of Kentucky in 1918 and at Transylvania University in 1947. After 1951 he worked in the private sector, developing oil and gas fields in Kentucky.
