Claudine Allison, 58, of 5404 East Anaheim Rpad, Long Beach, California, a former Staten Island Advance reporter, died April 30, 2011 at her home.

Born Claudine Irea Harris, whose family roots were in Sandy Ground and the Caribbean. She grew up in West Brighton and graduated from Susan Wagner High School. She attended Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts on full scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree. She had a lifelong passion for writing, the visual arts, and learning.

She worked as a reporter at the Advance in the early 1970s and then at Woman's Day magazine in Manhattan prior to relocating to Southern California in 1977. She resided in Montclair and Cypress, California before settling in Long Beach in 1980.

For several years, she worked at TRW Credit Reporting Agency, now Experian, in Los Angeles County. For the last twenty-two years, she was employed by Behavioral Health Services mainly at their Redgate Recovery facility in Long Beach, where she worked in payroll administration, training, and leadership.

A dedicated daughter, sister, and aunt, she had over twenty-five first cousins and was proud of her family and enjoyed their gatherings. She had a great capacity for friendship, acting as coach, guide, and confidante for many people.

A lifelong student of enlightenment, for many years she led groups in spiritual guidance and meditation and was a docent at the Long Beach Museum of Art.

Believing in living a joyful life, she cherished time with her loved ones, traveled, and especially loved to dance. Tall, elegant, and stylish, she enjoyed shopping for crafts and jewelry with favorite symbols of the moon and stars.

She was married to Alexander Stanley Allison after they met while both were working as reporters at the Advance. They divorced but remained friends until his death in 2004.

She is survived by her mother, Irie Annette Rohan; two brothers, Claudius A. and Eric Harris; and two sisters, Irie Harris and Diedra Harris Kelley.

The funeral will be held today at 3:00 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Memorial Parks & Mortuaries, Cypress, California.
Arrangements include cremation.
