Actress. Born in Little Rock Arkansas to actors John Templeton and Alice Vane who were principals in the touring John Templeton Opera Company. She was carried on stage as an infant and won her first speaking role at five. By the age of twenty, she was touring with her own light opera company. She made her Broadway debut in Evangeline in 1885; her London debut followed the next year in Monte Cristo, Junior. Over the next ten years she starred in several burlesque shows and a dozen more Broadway shows including George M. Cohan's Forty-five Minutes from Broadway. In 1906 she married William Patterson, her third husband, and cut back on her performances a great deal. She would only appear in another half dozen Broadway shows. She appeared in the film Broadway to Hollywood in 1933 and made her final curtain call in the Broadway musical Roberta in 1934. She died in San Francisco at age seventy-three. She was portrayed by actress Irene Manning in the Cohan biopic, Yankee Doodle Dandy in 1942.
