Daughter of Gen. Thomas Dockery and Laura O. West Dockery.
Sister of Octavia Dockery (Dana). Second wife of Richard Howell Forman. Richard was the same age as Nydia's father Gen. Thomas Dockery. Gen. Dockery disapproved of the marriage, and withheld his consent. Richard and Nydia moved from the plantation home at Fayette into the city of Natchez. The couple took over residence of Glenwood (probably from Richard's brother Stephen S. after his death in 1880.) The home was built by the Rev. Charles B. Dana after the Rev. moved to Natchez. Richard and Nydia took in Nydia's sister Octavia who moved to the home with them. The family took in the son of Rev. Dana as a boarder. The son was Richard "Dick" Dana. Dick remained a border in his own family home the rest of his life. Nydia died at her home Glenwood in Natchez. She was buried in the Natchez City Cemetery on Feb. 20, 1911 in the Forman family plot. Richard followed her in death one year later. Octavia took over management of the household, and tended Dick until his death in 1948. After his death, Octavia was declared Dick's common-law wife. This declaration entitled her to live in the once glorious home "Glenwood" then known as "Goat Castle" until her death in 1949. Octavia was buried beside her parents in the Natchez City Cemetery.
