US Congressman. Born the son of U.S. Congressman Phillip Allen Bennett, he graduated from Southwest Missouri State College, 1935, from Washington University School of Law, 1938, was admitted to the bar in 1938 and commenced to practice law in Springfield, Missouri. He served as secretary to his Congressman father, (1941-43). He was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father, reelected to the Seventy-ninth and Eightieth Congresses, serving (1943-49). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was commissioner of the United States Court of Claims, Washington, D.C., (1949-72), Senior Judge for U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal circuit, (1972-82) and Senior U.S. Circuit judge, (1986-87). He also served as a Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserves.
