Mrs. Dulles, nee Edith Foster, died in her 78th year. The wife of the noted Dr. Allen Macy Dulles (1854-1930), she was also the matriarch of a distinguished American family. She and her husband, a Presbyterian minister who later headed Auburn Theological Seminary, were the parents of statesman John Foster Dulles, Secretary of State under President Eisenhower; OSS-CIA Director Allen W. Dulles, who headed US intelligence during WWII; and Eleanor Dulles, a diplomat. She is also the grandmother of Avery, Cardinal Dulles, S.J., a convert to Catholicism and noted theologian.
