Indian Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the wars against the Plains Indians as a sergeant in Company F of the 5th United States Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Milk River, Colorado from September 29 to October 5, 1879. His citation reads "The command being almost out of ammunition and surrounded on three sides by the enemy he voluntarily brought up a supply under heavy fire at almost point blank range." His medal was awarded to him on January 27, 1880.
