Joseph Sauer Jr. was born February 18, 1898, the son of Joseph M. and Katherine (Riehle) Sauer. He married Alma Engelhard October 29, 1924 at St. Henry's Catholic church, rural Foxholm.

Joseph and Alma had two children, Vernita and Anna Mae (Lamm).

Rites Held Friday Near Foxholm for Joseph Sauer, Jr.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at St. Henry's Catholic church eight miles north of Foxholm for Joseph Sauer, Jr., of Carpio who died the previous Wednesday in a Minot hospital. Death came as a result of complications following a septic sore throat.

The body was taken to V. G. Engelhard's, the home of Mrs. Sauer where it lay in state from Thursday until Friday. The Rev. J. R. Ott of Foxholm officiated at the services and interment was made in the church cemetery.

The following six cousins acted as pall-bearers: John M. Keller, Jr., Joseph P. Sauer, Edward J. Sauer, Ben J. Sauer, Chas. M. Liebel and Leonard Backes.

Mr. Sauer is the son of pioneer residents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sauer, who reside near Carpio. He was born February 18, 1898. He leaves a wife and two daughters, Juanita Elvina, aged three, and Anna Marie, aged one. Four brothers, Mat, Fred, Alois, and Alphonse and one sister Mrs. Andrew Miller of Evenston survive. John M. Keller Sr., John M. Sauer, and Peter Sauer, well-known farmers in the vicinity and Frank Sauer, a resident of Canada are uncles of Mr. Sauer, and Mrs. Elizabeth Liebel of Minot is an aunt.

Mr. Sauer's death was unexpected and he had lived on a farm about nine miles from Carpio until his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Miller of Evanston, Ill., were present at the time of the death of Mr. Sauer and also attended the funeral.
