A graduate of Moravian College and Bellevue Schools of Nursing, New York University, New York City, he had a private practice of nurse anesthetists and was employed by several hospitals in Houston.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Florence P. Stauffer.
He was an nurse anesthetist with the Army, serving in Korea and Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division and Special Forces, and retired as a major. He was a recipient of a Purple Heart medal and a Bronze Star.
