John never married. He was a burglar by trade and was shot by police & later died at the Jameson Memorial Hospital in New Castle, PA. He reportedly had an extensive reputation for burglary and escaping from prison. He served prison terms in West Virginia State Pen in Moundsville & Western State Pen in Pittsburgh & Ohio State Reformatory beginning at age 11 years. His nickname was Whitey.
