Lyle C. Mathias, Sr., 85, of Nokomis, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 in St. John's Hospice, Springfield, IL. He was born October 1, 1925 in Dollville, IL, the son of John O. & Iva (Miller) Mathias. Lyle grew up on a farm, and lived his entire life in this area. He was engaged in some sort of farming all of his life, except for 12 years when he was field manager for DeKalb Seed Corn in Waterman, IL. Lyle served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Japan. He enjoyed woodworking, loved horses, bowling, & gardening. He also enjoyed people at the coffee shop, the elevator, and attending auctions. He was a member of the American Legion, Nokomis and Liars' Club at the restaurant.
Lyle married Fern Jones on November 24, 1949.
He is survived by his wife: Fern Mathias, Nokomis, IL; son: Lyle C. Mathias, Jr. & wife Myra, Ohlman, IL; grandchildren: Wendy Mathias (Mike Price), East Peoria, IL; Kendra Carter & husband Sidney, Murfreesboro, TN; Kirtus Collins, Tower Hill, IL; Kevin Collins and Marcus Brown, Decatur, IL; great grandchildren: Derrick Mathias & wife Jenny, Murfreesboro, TN; Daylee Mathias, Murfreesboro, TN; Kayla, Kristofer, Max and Iris Collins Brown, Decatur, IL; Brett Hunt, Valier, IL; & Kedra & Kyle Collins, Mesa, AZ; great-great grandchildren: Clinton Mathias, Elesha Cantrell & Lexi Cantrell, Murfreesboro, TN; twin sister: Lila Caulk, Pana, IL; sisters: Doris Mathias & Mary Mathias, Assumption, IL; sister-in-law: Phyllis Mathias, Moweaqua, IL; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Junior Mathias; grandson, Shannon Mathias; granddaughter, Kerri Collins; & sister, Irma Barringer.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 12:00 noon with Joe Mollet officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Pana. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
