Rev. Dr. Alvin Samuel Haag was the son of Heinrich C. and Wilhelmina Haag. Phyllis Mae (Cochrane) Sloan Haag was his 1st wife. Phyllis died July 6, 1956. Idella Haag was his 2nd wife. Idella died February 4, 2002. Rev. Dr. Haag was a minister in the New York Conference/New England Conference and California Conference of the Evangelical Association Church. He served Rochester: Calvary: Monroe County, Rochester District, New York 1930-1933. He was an assistant professor of philosophy at North Central College, Naperville, Illinois 1934-1946. At the age of 70 he was ordained an Episcopal priest.

HAAG.--Dr. Alvin Samuel was born in Wilmot, South Dakota, in 1905, where he lived in a sod house. He grew up in Galveston, Texas, where he earned the first Eagle Scout award for the state of Texas. He was a long-time resident of Belvidere, died December 15, 2001, at Aldersley Retirement Home. He graduated from Hobart College and received advanced degrees from Evangelical Theological Seminary; Colgate-Rochester Divinity School and received a Ph.D in philosophy from Boston University. He served as dean of humanities at University of Redlands and taught at the American University of Beirut, San Francisco State, and North Texas State. At the age of 70 he was ordained an Episcopal priest and served as a non-stipendiary priest at St. Stephen's church for 20 years. He donated quality time and was a benefactor to Ritter House and Friends of Arequipa. He served as president of the Marin Mental Health Association and was an honorary member of the Tiburon Rotary Club. His love of sailing led to many successes on the Bay, and an active participation in the San Francisco Yacht club. He was supportive to the junior sailing program and he was the inspiration to his grandson, Russ Silvestri, who went on to compete in the America's Cup and the Olympics. He is survived by Idella Haag, his wife of 41 years, who currently resides at Aldersley. He is also survived by his son, Dr. David Haag, a pediatric dentist in Irvine, CA; his daughter, Shirley Silvestri of Tiburon; his grandson Michael Haag, of Malden, MA; Steven Haag of Flagstaff, AZ; Robert Haag of Brookline, MA; Russ Silvestri of San Francisco; granddaughter Laura Partridge of Truckee, CA; Steven Haag of Anaheim, CA; Lauren Haag of Huntington Beach, CA; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephen's Parish in Belvedere on Thursday, December 20th, at 1:30 p.m. Contributions in Al's memory may be made to St. Stephen's Church, 3 Bayview Avenue, Belvedere, CA 94920
