US Congressman. He graduated from Lyndland Institute, taught school, studied law, graduated from the law department of the University of Louisville, in 1873, was admitted to the bar and began practice law in Taylorsville, Kentucky, in 1874. He was prosecuting attorney of Spencer County, a member of the Kentucky State Senate, and a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1896. In 1899, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1907. Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 59.
