US Congressman. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Midshipman. Elected as the Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky, he served from 1961 to 1965. He was then elected as a Republican to represent Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1967 until 1971. He was defeated in 1970 for re-election by Congressman Romano L. Mazzoli, who would hold the seat for the next 23 years. He died in Louisville, Kentucky in 1971, 9 months after the end of his Congressional term.
