BENJ. C. YANCEY BURIED AT ROME
Rome,Ga., May 17.-(Special)
Funeral services were held here today for Benjamin Cudworth Yancey, Rome's last mayor and one of the most prominent citizens of this section of Georgia. The services were conducted from the Yancy residence, the Rev. Dr. R.O. Cleckler, pastor of the First Methodist Church, and the Rev. J.E. Sammons, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in Myrtle Hill cemetery.
Mr. Yancy, who was 50 years of age, was the eldest son of Col and Mrs. Hamilton Yancey. He was connected with the Rome Cabinet Company. From 1912 to 1916 he served as mayor of Rome, being the last mayor of the city, which adopted the commission form of government upon his retirement.
He was graduated as first honor man from the Webb school of Bell Buckle, Tenn., and received his A.B. and law degrees from the University of Georgia. Death was unexpected and was a result of a sudden attack of angina pectoris. Monday night Mr. Yancy attended a motion picture performance at a downtown theater and apparently was in the best of health.
Tuesday morning he was stricken upon early arising and although medical aid both locally and that of Atlanta physicians was summoned, he died early Wednesday morning.
he is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Maude Harris, of Rome; one son, Hamilton Yancey III; his parents and the following sisters; Mrs. Sam Hewlett, Atlanta, Mrs. Austin Clark, New York, Mrs. J.G. Newton, Americus.
