US Congressman. He graduated from the law department of the University of Alabama in 1886, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Tuscumbia, Alabama. He served as solicitor of the eighth judicial district of Alabama (1890-94), as a member of the Alabama State House of Representatives (1907-11, 1915-19) and in the Alabama State Senate, (1919-23). In 1933, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Edward B. Almon, was reelected to the Seventy-fourth Congress, serving until 1937. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law, plus was a member of the State Board of Education, on the Tuscumbia Board of Education and trustee of the University of Alabama, until his death at age 83.
