Wallace Chappell and wife, Mary Frances, in Nashville, TN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bob graduated from San Jacinto High School, Houston, in 1932, received his BS from Birmingham-Southern College, Birmingham, AL, in 1936 and his MD from Vanderbilt Medical School, Nashville, TN, in 1940. He completed his residency in pathology at Hillman-Jefferson Hospital and was assigned to teach at the U. of Alabama Medical School during WWII. He was the pathologist for Baptist Memorial Hospital in Houston from 1946-50, a founding member and charter officer of the Houston Pathology Society, and an adjunct professor at Baylor Medical School and M. D. Anderson.

On Aug. 27, 1948, he married Billie Jo Darden. They moved to Texarkana, TX where he established a private pathology practice from 1950-81 and raised their family. In 1960-61, they lived in South India where he taught at Vellore Christian Medical School and Hospital as a Methodist Missionary. He also did short-term medical missionary service at the Mennonite Hospital in Hualien, Taiwan and for the Baptist board in Dominica. From 1951 until his mandatory retirement at age 70 in 1984, Bob was a pathologist at the City of Faith and taught at ORU Medical School. He continued to substitute for other pathologists in Texas and Oklahoma until 1994. Although he and Billie returned to east Texas for 5 years, the charm of Tulsa, especially the Friendship Class of First Methodist Church, drew them back in 1989.

Bob was a gifted artist and craftsman, loved music and singing, and was dedicated to Christian missions which he expressed through the Card Ministry, the Melodears and supporting mission projects at his church until his health interfered.

His memorial service will be conducted by Reverends Ed Bateman and Arden Autry in the Floral Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel Sat., June 15, at 12:30 PM, followed by a meal for family and out of town friends. Family members will be present for the private entombment at Floral Haven Mausoleum on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Ministries and Outreach at First Methodist Church, Tulsa; Every Home for Christ, Colorado Springs; or Vellore Christian Medical School and Hospital, Tamil Nadu, South India. To God be the glory! Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow, OK 918-252-2518.
