Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Union Army as a Private in Company L, 1st Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Fort Stedman, Virginia on March 25, 1865. His citation reads "Capture of flag of the 26th North Carlina Infantry (C.S.A.)."
